Cronstedt is one of the oldest families in the
Swedish House of Nobility.
The history of the family dates back to the 17th century. Marten Gavelius, manager of Axel Oxenstierna’s estates, was made nobility with the name Cronstedt 17 December 1686. He married Anna Gerdes in her second marriage. Gavelius did not have any children, but adopted the 6 children from his wife’s previous marriage with Anders Olderman, a trader in Stockholm. The children were made nobility with the name Cronstedt and the sons would make up the main branches of the family.
Introduced as count's family no 83 in the Swedish House of Nobility in 1752. The members are the descendents of Jakob Cronstedt (1668-1751).
Introduced as baronial family no 136 in 1719 in the Swedish House of Nobility and died out in 1834. The members are the descendants of Carl Cronstedt (1672-1750).
Introduced as untitled nobility family no 1104 in the Swedish House of Nobility in 1693. The members are descendants of Gabriel Cronstedt (1670-1750) and Johan Cronstedt (1660-1697)
Part of the untitled nobility family was separated from the Swedish House of Nobility and was introduced in the
Finnish House of Nobility
in the nineteenth century. The Finnish untitled nobility family was introduced as no 70 in the Finnish House of Nobility in 1818 and died out in 1979. The members are the descendants of Carl Olof Cronstedt (1756-1820). The Finish baronial family was introduced as no 50 in the Finish House of Nobility in 1870 and lives on through adoption. The members are the descendents of the adopted children of Carl Olof Cronstedt (1800-1883).
